چکیده

Abstract This study describes mineralogical and crystallochemical characteristics of metamorphic tourmalines from an Alpine shear zone in a Variscan rock sequence the Maramures region northern part East Carpathians. We use this mineral to unravel aspects evolution tourmaline bearing host rocks compare crystallo-chemical other Alps. Petrographic microstructural observations, as well electron microprobe analyses on several zoned associated minerals (mica, feldspar) mylonitic schist Rebra terrane (Maramureș Mountains), indicate that pre-kinematic belong alkali group (Na dominant), hydroxyl dominated crystallographic W-site can be assigned species dravite schorl. The tourmaline-bearing have metasedimentary protolith. analysed porphyroblasts, rotated by simple shear, show corroded rim are interpreted formed due pressure release. Three main compositional zones were evidenced porphyroblast: core two asymmetrically arranged inclusion-poor/free rims, all pre-alpine prograde conditions. Based relations geothermobarometry (tourmaline–muscovite, tourmaline–plagioclase geothermometry phengite geobarometry), peak conditions investigated evaluated been at temperature ca. 590 620 ± 22 °C P min = 5.5 - 6.0 0.5 kbar. By observing dynamically recrystallized microstructures quartz feldspar 350 400 was estimated paleopiezometry outlined differential stress about 1.5 kbar implied only minor chemical change outer zone.

Air pollution, precipitation chemistry and forest health in the Retezat Mountains, Southern Carpathians, Romania.

In the Retezat Mountains concentrations of O3, NO2 and SO2 in summer season 2000-2002 were low and below toxicity levels for forest trees. While NH3 concentrations were low in 2000, the 2001 and 2002 concentrations were elevated indicating possibility for increased N deposition to forest stands. More than 90% of the rain events were acidic with pH values <5.5, contributing to increased acidity ...

Isophya nagyi, a new phaneropterid bush-cricket (Orthoptera: Tettigonioidea) from the Eastern Carpathians (Caliman Mountains, North Romania)

This study describes Isophya nagyi sp. n. from the Caliman Mountains (Eastern Carpathians, Romania). This species was discovered on the basis of the special rhythmic pattern of its male calling song. Regarding morphology Isophya nagyi is similar to the species of the Isophya camptoxypha species-group (I. ciucasi, I. sicula, I. posthumoidalis, I. camptoxypha), however the male stridulatory file ...

Petrogenetic significance of some new xenolithic alkaline rocks from East Africa

New occurrences of xenolithic alkaline rocks from three East African volcanoes are described. Micro-ijolites and alkali pyroxenites occur in the carbonate-rich tufts and lavas of Mount Elgon; kaersutite-rich pyroxenites and a suite of fenitized basement rocks in the caldera flows of Mount Meru, and apparently unique melanocratic hortonolite nepheline syenites in the central foyaite plug of Moun...

Characterizing Tourmaline in Metapelitic Schists from The Gasht Area, North Iran and Boron Source in Metamorphic Fluids

Metapelitic rocks in the Gasht area include micaschist, kyanite schist, andalusite schist, garnet schist, staurolite schist, cordierite schist and sillimanite schist. Tourmaline occurs as accessory mineral in all of these rock types. These schists are metamorphosed regionally and are affected by contact metamorpism subsequently. Based on the textural relations and the fact that CaO and TiO2 con...

Stratigraphy and paleogeographic significance of metamorphic rocks in the Shadow Mountains, western Mojave Desert, California

Stratigraphic correlations presented here for the ductilely deformed and metamorphosed rocks exposed in the Shadow Mountains indicate that they formed on the North American continental margin and are not exotic or significantly displaced from their site of origin. These strata represent a depositional history that spans Late Proterozoic and Paleozoic passive margin development, late Paleozoic t...
